Deciding important (and sometimes controversial) cases is nothing new to the U.S. Supreme Court. This seminar will provide an overview of the key decisions from the highest court and look at the following:
- Overview of the Supreme Court in general and the court docket for the 2023-2024 term
- Selected Important/Interesting Cases this Term by Issue Area
- Looking Forward: Accepted for Next Term (2024-2025)

PRESENTERS
Dr. Todd Collins is the Steed Distinguished Professor in Public Policy and the department chair for the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs at Western Carolina University. He earned a JD from UNC-Chapel Hill and a PhD from the University of Georgia. Dr. Collins’s research focuses on law and courts, constitutional law, and judicial behavior and he has spoken at several North Carolina State Bar CLE programs in the past. Dr. Collins’s publications appear in numerous political science journals, law reviews, and media outlets.
